Gray Wolves (Canis lupus)

There are two primary species of wolves - red wolves and gray wolves. Arctic wolves, Mexican wolves and Timber wolves are all subspecies of the Gray Wolf. At RWS, we house only gray wolves. Wolves are an apex predator in an ecosystem. They primarily hunt ungulates (bison, elk, deer, caribou).  At RWS, we try to replicate this diet by feeding an all-natural diet of road kill deer, as well as other sources of raw meat such as freezer meat. Wolves are highly social animals and tend to live in packs of 8-12 individuals depending on territory and available prey species.
